Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of Lead acid batteries and LiFePO4 batteries:
1. Long cycle life:
The cycle life of lead acid batteries is about 300 times at100% DOD while LiFePO4 battery have more than 2,000 cycles. In the same conditions, the life of lithium batteries is about 6 times that of lead acid batteries.
2. Safe to use and good performance:
LiFePO4 battery completely solve the safety problems by built in smart battery management system. With the BMS protection, batteries have a better control for the voltage, current, temperature to make sure they work in a safety condition. That means the BMS will cut off the battery output when occur the over voltage, over current, over temperature ect.
3.No memory effect:
Battery memory effect refers to the phenomenon of nickel or cadmium battery, it is easy to leave traces in the battery and reduce the battery capacity if it is not fully charged and discharged for a long time.
It means that the battery seems to remember the daily charging and discharging range and mode of the user. It is difficult to change this mode after a long time, and it can no longer charge or discharge a large amount. This effect does not exist in lithium-ion batteries.
4.Smaller size and lighter weight:
The volume of the LifePO4 battery is 2/3 of the volume of the Lead acid battery, and the weight is light, only 1/3 to 1/4 of the lead acid battery.
5.Safety and environmental protection:
Lead acid battery contains heavy metals such as lead and antimony, which may cause pollution to the environment. It is prone to leakage due to use and maintenance. Internal sulfuric acid spillage causes equipment corrosion and personal injury.
Lithium iron phosphate material does not contain any heavy metals and rare metals, non-toxic, no pollution in production and use, in line with European RoHS regulations, is a green battery lithium battery. In experiments such as puncture, extrusion, overcharging, and short circuits, it does not explode or ignite.
The difference between lithium battery and lead-acid battery:
1.The nominal voltage is different:
The nominal voltage of each cell of a lead-acid battery is 2 V while the LiFePO4 is 3.2V.
2. Different energy density:
Lead-acid battery 30WH/KG, LifePO4 battery 110WH/KG.
LifePO4 battery adopts voltage-limiting and current-limiting method, that is a limited threshold is given for current and voltage. Lead acid batteries have more charging methods, such as constant current charging method, constant voltage charging method and floating charging.
The charging efficiency of Lead acid batteries is relatively low at 70% whereas the charging efficiency of LiFePo4 batteries can exceed 80% or even 90%. Lifepo4 battery can approve much higher charging current and support fast charging.
