Tesla is an American electric vehicle and energy company that produces and sells electric vehicles, solar panels, and energy storage equipment. In recent years, Tesla's 13.5kwh backup battery system has gained a high status in home energy storage. It is a lithium battery integrated home energy storage system developed by Tesla Motors. Moreover, it is suitable for storing renewable energy, such as electricity generated by solar and wind energy, and supplying it to homes and businesses at night or when there is no wind.

Sonnen Solar Battery:

Sonnen Energy was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Germany. It produces energy storage battery systems for private households and small businesses; it mainly produces, develops, and sells energy storage systems, inverters, battery management systems, and lithium iron phosphate batteries. Its system connects homes with solar panels and lithium battery energy storage systems, known as “virtual power plants.”

Dyness Powerbox Battery:

Dyness is a Chinese company headquartered in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province. They started producing battery storage solutions for residential use in 2017.   1. With DC coupling, technically speaking, DC coupled batteries tend to be more efficient because the energy does not need to go through the inverter until the battery is fully charged;

  2. In terms of efficiency ratings, the LG Chem has a round trip efficiency of 96%, while the Tesla Powerwall claims a round trip efficiency of 90%.


  1. Has a relatively high energy density and therefore does not dissipate heat as easily as other models.

  2. Compared to the Tesla Powerwall, the Tesla’s peak available energy is 13.5kWh, while the LG Chem has only 9.3kWh.

  3. Like Tesla, it uses ternary lithium technology, which has poor thermal stability. The theoretical life of the ternary lithium battery is about 800 cycles, while lithium iron phosphate can reach 4000 cycles or more cycles.


Key data of low-voltage battery energy storage system:

A solar backup system should be a good match in capacity, performance, and longevity to the solar system involved. If the residential battery storage is too small, it may not be enough to use all the power from the photovoltaic system. On the other hand, if you choose residential battery storage that is too large, your system will not be able to fully utilize its capacity, and the cost of a solar backup system may eat up the potential savings from generating solar power.

Choosing lithium iron phosphate battery or ternary lithium battery?

A lithium iron phosphate battery is a lithium-ion battery with a positive electrode made of lithium iron phosphate material and a negative electrode made of graphite material. Compared with other types of lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries have higher safety.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries use inorganic salts as electrolytes, which have high thermal stability and resistance to overcharge and short circuits. Secondly, lithium iron phosphate batteries have a long cycle life. The cathode material of lithium iron phosphate battery has good stability and a cycle life of more than 2,000 times. In addition, compared with other lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries have a lower self-discharge rate and can maintain a higher charge after being left for a long time. This makes lithium-iron phosphate batteries advantageous in some special application scenarios, such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

Talking about ternary lithium battery, first of all, it has high energy density. The cathode material of the ternary lithium battery contains gold elements with a high specific capacity, and its energy density is high. This makes ternary lithium batteries more suitable for applications that require higher energy density, such as electric vehicles and mobile equipment. Compared with lithium iron phosphate batteries, ternary lithium batteries are less safe. The cathode material of ternary lithium batteries contains high cobalt elements. Cobalt can easily cause thermal runaway under high temperatures, overcharge, and short circuits, thus affecting safety.
