One Minute Helps You Understand All Types of the Solar System

Solar photovoltaic power generation systems are generally divided into four types according to different application scenarios: Grid-connected power generation system, off-grid energy storage system, hybrid energy storage system and grid-connected energy storage system.


1. Solar grid-connected power generation system

A traditional solar photovoltaic power generation system must be connected to the public power grid. It is mainly composed of photovoltaic modules, photovoltaic grid-connected inverters, photovoltaic meters, loads, two-way meters, grid-connected cabinets, and power grids. The solar panels emit AC power that is directly converted into 220V by the inverter and power household appliances. When the solar power generation exceeds the power used by household appliances, the excess electricity is transported It reaches the public power grid; when the solar power generation cannot meet the use of household appliances, it is automatically supplemented from the power grid.

This entire process is intelligently controlled and does not require manual switching on or off. However, grid connection also has its disadvantages, that is to say, solar photovoltaic power generation cannot operate when the public grid is out of power.


2. Off-grid photovoltaic energy storage system:

It is also called an independent photovoltaic energy storage system. It can operate independently without relying on the power grid, converting light energy into electrical energy. It generally consists of photovoltaic arrays composed of solar cell modules, solar charge and discharge controllers, battery packs, off-grid inverters, DC loads, and AC loads.

Since the off-grid photovoltaic energy storage system is not restricted by geography, it has a very wide range of applications, for example, remote mountainous areas, powerless areas, islands, communication base stations, and street lights; What's more, it can also be used on the residential buildings, schools, hotels, factories, etc., as well as RVs and yachts, photovoltaic building integration and other fields, which can effectively solve the problem of shortage electricity and power outages.

The advantages of choosing this system are as follows: Firstly, even if there is no grid access, reliable power supply can be provided at any time; Secondly, you can choose a battery energy storage system with sufficient capacity according to your power needs; Most importantly, it is completely independent of external power supply, so you have to pay electricity bills no more.



3. Hybrid energy storage system:

It consists of photovoltaic components, solar and off-grid all-in-one machines, energy storage batteries, loads, etc. The photovoltaic array converts solar energy into electrical energy when there is light, and supplies power to the load through the solar control inverter all-in-one machine, while charging the battery; When there is no light, the battery supplies power to the solar control inverter all-in-one machine, and then to the AC load power supply.

Compared with the grid-connected power generation system, this system adds a charge and discharge controller and a storage battery. When the grid is out of power, the photovoltaic system can continue to work, and the inverter can switch to off-grid working mode to supply power to the load.


How to choose suitable energy storage batteries?

When we refer to energy storage batteries, we are actually talking about the usage patterns under off-grid and hybrid systems, because the grid-tie system directly transmits electricity through the grid to the household electricity usage system,  and the above two modes involve the issue of electrical energy storage.

Under the off-grid system, we need to rely completely on the energy storage battery to realize the distribution and use of electric energy.

The battery must meet all energy needs, including nighttime, rainy days,  and some extreme weather effects. Different from off-grid systems, hybrid solar systems intelligently switch between using solar power battery storage and grid power. It allows you to avoid using grid power at peak prices leading to bill savings. For example, If the battery runs low, grid power can be imported to meet the home’s needs. If the utility’s off-peak electric rates are low enough,  it might be economical to charge the batteries with grid power No matter what kind of case,  the use of energy storage batteries can effectively reduce the consumption of electricity bills and avoid the impact of extreme weather.

4. Grid-connected energy storage system:

The system consists of photovoltaic modules, solar controllers, batteries, grid-connected inverters, current detection devices, loads, etc. When the solar power is less than the load power, the system is powered by solar energy and the grid together. When the solar power is greater than the load power, part of the solar energy supplies power to the load, and part of it stores the unused electricity through the controller.

In addition, the microgrid system is also a type of grid-connected system, which refers to a network composed of multiple distributed power sources and their related loads according to a certain topological structure, and is finally connected to the conventional large power grid through switches. It is mainly a power distribution network composed of distributed power sources, loads, energy storage systems and control devices.
