The Chevrolet Volt's ion battery has been traveling for 100,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first, the automaker announced on Wednesday.

The current popular hybrid models on the market, including the Toyota Prius and the Ford Escape Hybrid, have a similar warranty on their battery packs.
Volt, however, uses different battery chemicals.
In addition, since the car operates purely on battery-powered for up to 40 miles, the Volt's battery bears a larger working load than the one in a gas/electric hybrid.
