malcolm turnbull spruiks tasmania's renewable energy future - battery energy
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has spoken to members of the state's Liberal Party about the future of renewable energy in the state.
On Saturday, Turnbull said at the Tasman Liberal State Department in Launceston that the state "played a huge role" in the national electricity market ".
He told about 250 delegates: "The state of Tasmania has the best wind resources in the country . . . . . . But you have to have some backups . ".
"I talked a lot about the snow water and electricity, and we are very proud of it . . . . . . You can do the same in tazhou.
"The combination of Tassie hydro with renewable energy, plus another connector-you put all of this together, is a big deal and a big vision for Tasmania state as a renewable energy battery in Australia.
Turnbull said it would continue to investigate the idea of establishing a second connecting device in the Bass Strait.
"We are funding a joint study with Hydro Tasmania through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, which involves at least nine or more pumping projects across the state," he said . ".
"By establishing a portfolio of power generation assets in Tasmania, hydro, tides or the new cattle mountain wind power electric field announced on June . . . . . . You can see the future of greater connectivity in the national electricity market.
"It's a big deal, a big vision, a big opportunity.
Matthew Groom, the state environment minister for Tasmania, said Turnbull's statement was the "clearest public commitment to achieve the state's potential so far ".
"I think it is fair to say that tazhou is realizing its potential to become a national renewable energy power," Mr. Groom said . ".
"Our hydro system has twice the capacity of snow, which is why the Prime Minister is so passionate about the potential of tazhou.
Mr. Turnbull looked more broadly at the state and said he was committed to the future of business and industry.
"The fate of this country has changed," he said . ".
"Confidence, optimism and resilience are now back in tazhou again.
Sam mcquestan, national director of the Tasman Liberal Party, said the party still has work to do in the state.
"This is a year to prepare for the construction of the Liberal Party in the next March election," said Mr McQuestin.
"The work was not completed.
"There is a risk of hanging Parliament, which is not acceptable to Tasman.
