Owner AGL announced that they plan to shut down aging coal-fired power stations in 2022, but Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is pushing the plant to remain open.

A new analysis found that it was 3 billion cheaper than the Turnbull government's plan to extend the life of the new state's factory by five years.
The second report, released on Monday, also believes that if public uncertainty can be overcome, it is possible for Australia to lead the world in the development of large household energy storage systems.
The two reports will provide a reference for the COAG Energy Committee to meet in Hobart on Friday to discuss the federal government's national energy security.
Modeled by the Institute for Sustainable Future, the University of Science and Technology Sydney, commissioned by the Australian Conservation Foundation, found a clean energy package including battery storage, solar thermal sources, and bio-energy, in contrast, by extending the thinkdell, pollution will reach 40 million tons. Total cost (
Including capital and operating costs)
It is estimated that the cost for five years is $2.
The clean energy package is $2 billion compared to $3.
6 billion, package for extending Lider factory life, $3.
AGL's 3 billion plans to upgrade the Bayswater power station for natural gas, wind and battery storage.
These costs do not include the potential cost of carbon pollution, which will make coal and gas more expensive.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the most obvious solution to prevent the planned shutdown of the Lider power plant in 2022 from causing a power shortage is to keep the plant open.
But the report shows there are other ways to keep the lights on all the time.
Clean energy programmes include: Generating 1000 MW of capacity through the introduction of projects that encourage people to use by improving lighting, encouraging behavior change and transforming people's homes, among other ways
600 MW of new wind power.
250 MW of demand response, including financial incentives for consumers to reduce electricity consumption in a short period of time.
Flexible pricing of 200 MW, depending on the time of day and the time of year, the electricity price changes.
This will encourage people to run things like pool water pumps during off hourspeak times.
The authors of the report believe that this will create a system that is as reliable as the Lidell Power Plant.
Kelly O'Shanassy, CEO of the Foundation, said keeping Lidell more than 2022 open would be detrimental to the climate and Australia's ability to achieve the Paris goals.
She said that the election results showed that the elected representative of Australia hindered the development of the country.

A report from the Council of Australian academic colleges also warned that without proper planning and investment in energy storage, electricity costs in Australia will continue to rise and electricity supply will become less reliable.
The report found that while the public had some knowledge of energy storage such as batteries and pumped water and electricity, there was very limited knowledge of other emerging technologies such as renewable hydrogen.
Consumers are also reluctant to install batteries at home for safety reasons.
"This report clearly shows both sides of the coin --
Energy storage is a huge opportunity for Australia, but there is still work to be done to build consumer confidence, "said Bruce Godfrey, chairman of the Council's expert working group.
"The best way to change your attitude is to increase your understanding of energy storage.
Alan Finkel, Australia's chief scientist, said energy storage could be Australia's new major export sector, given Australia's natural resources and technical expertise.
"Energy storage is an opportunity to take advantage of our research strengths, innovative culture, and rich natural resources," said Dr. Finkel . ".
"We have a huge advantage in the rapidly expanding field of lithium production and the emerging field of renewable hydrogen for export opportunities to Asia.
