CHICAGO – U. S.
Engineers have found a way to make lithium batteries that are smaller, lighter, longer lasting and capable of charging in seconds.
Researchers believe that fast
Charging batteries can open up new areas of application, including providing better batteries for electric vehicles.
A team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reported on Wednesday in nature because they used old materials in a new way and batteries could be sold in two or three years.

The current rechargeable lithium batteries can store a lot of energy and make them long batteries. running.
But they are stingy with releasing their energy, which makes it slow for them to release it and takes hours to charge it.
Scientists traditionally believe
Mobile lithium ion
Battery charged through battery-
For this slowness.
However, about five years ago, a team from Gerbrand Ceder and MIT found that the lithium ion in the traditional lithium iron phosphate battery material actually moved quickly.
"It turns out there are other restrictions," Ceder said in a telephone interview . ".
Ceder and his colleagues found lithium ion passing through the tunnel from the surface of the material.
If the lithium ion on the surface is directly in front of the tunnel entrance, it can charge quickly.
However, if the ion is not at the entrance, it cannot easily move there, thus reducing the charging efficiency.
Ceder and colleagues corrected the problem by improving the battery formula.
"We changed the composition of the base material and we changed the way it was made --
"Heat treatment," said Ceder.
This creates many smooth tunnels in the material that allow for easy access of ions.
"The key is to know what to change," he said . "
Using their new processing technology, the team built a small battery that can be fully charged in 10 to 20 seconds.
Ceder believes that this material may lead to smaller, lighter batteries because less material is needed for the same result.
Since they simply patch a material that is already commonly used for batteries, it can be easily used for commercial purposes.
"If the manufacturer decides to go down this road, they can do it in a few years," said Ceder . ".
A glitch will be dealing with an additional surge in power, says Ceder.
"All lines must be strengthened," he said . ".
