In addition to cable and Internet services, Verizon offers land services
Telephone service.
The service uses an IP Voice Protocol, which means it uses an Internet service to transmit voice communications.
Ensure uninterrupted land
Line telephone service Verizon needs to provide battery backup to keep the line open during the power outage.
If the battery is completely exhausted during a long downtime and cannot be charged, the device will issue a harsh alarm.
Think about the harsh sound of the smoke alarm.
An alarm is issued every hour before replacing the battery.
Verizon will not replace the battery for free.
The official policy is to charge the customer a replacement fee of $30 unless the warranty is one year.
This Instructure will teach you how to mute the alarm clock.
You will be able to permanently remove the alarm feature from the battery backup unit.
This is for those who don't want to replace the battery with $30 and don't want to hear any more annoying alarms.
This instruction manual requires you to get your hands dirty, but no electronic experience is required.
Basic Electrical safety is involved in this project.
You need to disconnect some wires before you process the device.
Failure to operate in the correct order may result in uncomfortable but harmless electric shocks.
Please note that during a power outage, a backup unit without a battery can no longer provide telephone service.
You have to rely on other ways of communication (
Cell phone, Telegram, smoke signal)
Until power is restored.
All you need is some very basic hand tools.
Find the spare battery.
The battery backup unit should look like the picture above.
It will be connected to a wire to the wall near the building.
Get your tools ready and make room for work.
Access to the unit may involve narrow working conditions.
Remove the cover of the leftmost box in the battery backup unit.
This will expose the battery.
This should be removed by sliding the red and black connectors on the battery Post.
The battery will be a bit heavy so be prepared and don't drop it on your feet.
This type of battery is almost entirely made of lead and should not be simply thrown into the trash can.
If you choose to discard your battery, be sure to handle it properly.
Almost all retailers selling lead
Any type of acid battery needs to be recycled from the old one.
This includes car outlets.
If you have a problem or can't find a suitable recycling location, please consult the EPA's website for more advice.
After removing the battery, find and remove the screws that hold the device to the wall.
Note that you don't have to remove the smaller units either, but if you do, it may make it easier for you to work with the units.
Find and remove the screws in the recessed hole on the back of the unit.
These screws are usually facing the wall and cannot be removed if the spare battery is not removed from the wall.
This allows access to the circuit board inside.
Do not touch the board before disconnecting the green connector (pictured).
On May 1, the failure to disconnect the green connector from the board resulted in a slight and uncomfortable electric shock.
Find the piezoelectric buzzer on the circuit board.
The piezoelectric buzzer is a thin metal plate encapsulated in plastic.
The paper shakes very fast and makes an annoying noise.
They are used in smoke alarms in the event of a fire to save people's lives.
Verizon also uses them to drive people to buy $30 batteries.
The piezoelectric buzzer should be located near the bottom angle of the circuit board.
Grab the piezoelectric buzzer with your vice handle or pliers.
Pull the piezoelectric buzzer off the board using swing and twist motion.
It should be popular with moderate efforts.
This will permanently remove the alarm function of the battery backup unit.
Note that this does not affect any other features of the device.
The board should look like a photo when it's done.
If there is a piezoelectric buzzer, there should be a white circle.
Alternatively, to reduce the damage, you can apply a strong glue or rubber cement in the hole at the top of the piezoelectric buzzer to keep it muted permanently.
Work in reverse order, reconnect the green connector, close and secure the device, and then reconnect it to the wall.
The piezoelectric buzzer cannot make noise when disconnected from the circuit board.
Enjoy uninterrupted sleep.
By the way, programs that remove/disable battery backup alarms can be used with any device that uses a piezoelectric buzzer.
Keep in mind that there is usually a good reason to call the police, not just to annoy people to spend money.
Thanks for reading.
When I originally posted this manual on Youtube, I got a lot of positive comments.
I hope it will help you too.
