Families and businesses in Adelaide CBD will receive financial incentives to install solar cell storage systems.
The Adelaide City Council says the project is Australia's first such project, which is good for both taxpayers and the environment.
Power retailers are developing batteries to store the electricity generated by rooftop solar panels for use at night.
